LIMITS TO DAILY FUNCTIONS

Understanding how neurodivergent traits can modify, change, or impact your daily functions is very important. See six examples of such limitations. Some daily functions may be limited, as for example in personal care, performing manual tasks, operating devices, communicating, learning, working, and concentrating.

Take It To the Limit!

Understanding how neurodivergent traits can modify, change, or impact your daily functions is crucial. Here are six examples of such limitations. Nearly all these require professional help and long-term support.

Caring for Yourself

You may struggle with personal hygiene or dressing appropriately due to difficulty understanding social norms, being very fussy about the way you look, or a lack of motivation.

Performing Manual Tasks

Tasks that require fine motor skills, such as writing or using utensils, might present challenges because of motor coordination issues. In the case of reading or writing, this may be caused by your brain’s interpreting words or parts of words in a different way (dyslexia).

Communicating

Severe difficulty in interpreting social cues can make your
verbal and non-verbal communication challenging, often leading to misunderstandings or social isolation.

Learning

Cognitive brain differences can affect your ability to process information, making traditional education settings less effective and requiring alternative learning strategies. You may also experience overload, when your brain is attempting to process too much information or noticing too many details.

Working

Maintaining focus and adhering to routines can be difficult, impacting your job performance and necessitating special accommodation or support.

Concentrating

Sensory sensitivities or executive functioning issues might hinder your ability to concentrate on tasks, leading to decreased productivity in both personal and professional settings. Rapidly shifting focus must be managed appropriately, and if unmanaged it is often medicalized as ADD or ADHD.
